Default Texas Hunters Have You Hunted The Brazos River.

I was at my lake house at Possum Kingdom this week end. During the winter months the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocks trout in the Brazos river just behind the spillway. When I was fishing, I ran across a duck hunter who was hunting there. I asked him about hog hunting on the river. He didn't know, so I contacted the Brazos River Authority and they informed me I could hog hunt there any time... What is so exciting about this, there are hog prints and trailseverywhere. In fact, I found a hog freeway.. Seriously, there was evidence of many hogs crossing there daily. Anyway, if your from the North Texas area, and need a place to hunt free. its' right there, where the Brazos river crosses Hwy 16... 15 minutes from my lake house.. I am going back this week end and start putting out some soured corn. and "Hog Wild".

Thanks for the info. I have more hogs than I know what to do with but its always good to learn about a new place to hunt. Especially a free one in Tx!

Good luck. You should find plenty of hogs. Where I hunt isabout a mile away from the Brazos River as the crow flies, and I've been seeing a bunch of hogs at night. The last time I was out varmint hunting, I got two hogs.

Thanks PK, I am doing much better now knowing I can hunt the river.. My wife loves it there, when we first bought the place I would commute to Ft. Worth daily to work. I didn't mind the hour and a half drive. I got the feeling I will be spending more and more time there. Which will make my wife very happy. Thank You Jesus!..

Should be good hunting on the Brazos, you have water, you have hogs. Pretty much true anywhere in Texas. You need to check on the baiting though, it is illegal on some public areas I believe, that may only be on corps property but worth checking into.

It's 90 miles west of Ft. Worth.. In northern Palo Pinto County. But the Brazos can be hunted throughout the state. In fact from reading about Texas hunting land. All rivers belong to the state and can be hunted unless they are in the city limits, they can be hunted by the public, even if they go through private land. There is a 15 foot easement on either side for public use.
