will 140 grain ballistic silvertip280 shells work for a big boar? i know i should have a bigger grain bullet, but none of my local stores carry 280 shells

Zester, a .243 will kill a hog with a95gr Power Pointor 100gr Silver Tipbullet.

yea, thats what i was thinking. if it were regular bullet i would be worried.
will it go through a big boars shoulder? i'm probably going this weekend

if you're going to use the ballistic tips i would be sure to not hit the boars shoulder. if you can try and get a quartering away shot so you can get the bullet in behind the shoulder and the ballistic tip can do what it's supposed to do on the vitals. i would also shy away from head shots if it's a big boar. on younger hogs(up to 120#'s) you shouldn't have to worry about penetration since there skulls aren't as this and the shoulder "shield" isn't as developed.

The sweet spot on a hog is not the same as with Deer etc. Don't need to worry about the shield. You need to hit the neck behind the ear.

i get to outdoor world about once a year. what kind of bullet should i get next time i go. i might get a chance to go elk hunting this year so a bullet big enough for that would be nice.
