Best trigger weight for a hunting rifle

I prefer to start at 3 lbs and go from there , any thoughts?

I generally like a trigger closer to 2 - 2.5# for medium/large N. American game. On my bigger rifles that are used in far away places for possibly large/dangerous game I like them just over 3#. For varmint rifles I like them under 2#.

I think it really comes down to your experience level and what you like
some just don't feel safe with lower weights, and some do!
so what I like might NOT be what YOU will!

I prefer all of my triggers to be under 1lb if they can be made to be securely so. Some actions just can’t go that low. I used to live by the old school “bench rifles 2-4 ounces, hunting rifles 2-4 pounds,” but the more I have shot precision rifle matches, I have simply given up on heavy triggers altogether, especially with lighter weight sporter rifles which are more easily influenced by a heavy trigger weight. So for me, 4-6 oz is ideal, or as low as the trigger design can be made to be.

Hunting guns get banged around a lot more than hunters will admit to. The lightest I will go on trigger weight is about #3 but on the other hand I don't want more than #5 as long as it's smooth.

I like my Hunting rifles to be set to 3 lbs.

I personally like a trigger between 2 - 3 lb. But like mrbb said, it comes down to experience. A 3# trigger can be awful light on a blistery cold winter day when your fingers are almost numb.
All that being said I hunted successfully with rifles that had horrible triggers. A Remington 760 and Winchester 88 are two that immediately pop into mind. But I know there were others.

I prefer not going below 3.5#.

3.5lbs is a nice sweet spot for the types of shooting that I do.
