30-06 to 35 Whelen - chamber modified?

I'm interested in finding a '06 to convert to 35 Whelen, for fun and pounding some feral pigs.

I know the barrel will have to be bored out. Would there be any modifications to the chamber too? I'm not set on a particlar rifle make or model. Would something like a Ruger American or Mossberg 4X4 work?

It's probably easier and less expensive to rebarrel instead of reboring.

Thanks. I did some quick checking and there are some inexpensive rifles in 35 Wh. out there. I like the price of some H&R/NEF single shots <$300, but I think they'd kick like a mule, being so light.

I'll probably re-barrel or better yet, buy a 'new' rifle!

Look into the 9.3x62 Mauser. It is .366 caliber and you can get bullet weights up to 320 grs. This round has been very popular in both Europe and Africa for over a century. Bullets and brass are easy to get and it is a heck of a round. Sad that many American hunters don't know about it.

Rebarrel for sure.

One fairly cheap option would be a Savage rifle in any 30-06 family long action (0.473" bolt face) and get a drop in barrel, installed super cheap. A 35whelen Handi-Rifle would be cheaper, but not everybody wants a single shot.

I just got done building a rifle in 35 Whelen. I took a new unfired 30-06 Stalker & rebarreled it with a air gauged match .358 barrel. I'd really love to get 1 of the Remington model 750s in 35 Whelen before they discontinue them! A simple rebarrelis all you need to do with no other changes.
