if you have the receiver already drilled and tapped for mounts you should be able to use the leupold std mauser base 1pc of course. back in the day people were pretty good about drilling standard holes. the base will cost you about 30-40 bucks and rings should be about 30 as well. I have had many mausers from fn, cz, Spanish, and 98k and I switched them all to 1pc leupold base. as for the amount your guy is charging I am sorry but he is taking advantage of your sentimental value. being a gunsmith myself the timney trigger is only about $60 cost. I understand it is what it is but it bugs me to see people do that to others. leupold part number for the base is 49990 midway usa is only $26.99. I have had too much bad luck with weaver style rings that's why I like leupold. as for scope depending on what you have I would keep it. I still use a redfield wideview from the 60s or 70s on my fn mauser and have a weaver 4 power on my Spanish mauser. if looking for a good scope try the vx1 2-7x33 only about $239. or I like the burris fullfield II or the vortex diamondback both about $250
