220 swift rechambered????
 

My grandfather in his old age(80's) had been reloading shells for his Savage 220 swift (bolt action) and apparently didn't seat the bullets well enough and messed up the chamber. It is a beautiful rifle that was a tackdriver. It's got a fully laminated wood stock/forend. It's very heavy with a huge barrel(I think it's called a bull barrel). My dad has the rifle now and I was wondering if it could be rechambered for something larger??? 220 swift is only a .22 Cal bullet so I didn't think going up a few calibers would be a problem. I don't think that the damage has ruined the integrity of the barrel. Any Ideas??? Thanks

220 Swift Re-chamber?
 

You can re-barrel easier and cheaper than you can re-chamber and re-bore. The 220Swift is a classic round. My suggestion is to havs the barrel set back and rechambered to 220Swift.

I'm sure you're right about the easier part! I would love to keep it a 220

+1!!!! I have had 3 Swifts and still own 2 and LOVE them!!!! Trust me, the coyotes and chucks won't notice a half inch off the barrel!!!! Have it re-chambered and go from there. You already know what made it tick, so just go from there. Good shootn!!!
