Off center firing pin on a marlin XL7?
I bought this gun about a month before gun season last year. I shot a box a remington 30-06 150gr core locks to sight it in and never had a miss fire. I got another box a 150gr core locks for hunting and ended up having 2 miss fires on 2 different bucks. I pulled the trigger nothing happened the fireing pin hit the primer very hard and from the eye it looked center. after that happen i put another round in the gun and it fired just fine at a target. Later that day another buck came by i pulled the trigger and again the fireing pin hit the primer and the shell did not go off. So at the end of season i mailed the 2 misfires back to remington and they just got back to be saying my fireing ping showed a light and extremely off center firing pin indent of only .013 inches. and the SAAMI recommened firing pin indentation for a center-fire rifle is .017 in the center of the primer cup. what do you guys think of this and do you think i should be giving marlin a call about the brand new gun?

Show some pictures of the fired primers from that gun.
I have a marlin lever that hits off by a good ways. And still alwayg goes bang. Could be anything from a loose chamber, bad headspace, bad ammo headspace, or bad bolt fit. |
Years ago I had a marlin 336 in 30-30 that did the same thing with remington ammo.I switched to winchester ammo and the gun never did it again

This is a new 1 on me. I'd be sending it back to Marlin for them to fix if I was you.

sorry i dont have any pictures to post of the ammo but i will try and get some. And this is just what remington told me casue i sent them the 2 mis fired shells and thats what they said was wrong with the rifle. They said there mix was right in the primer and the powder so its the rifles fault. But they are still going to send me $25.00 check towards a new box a ammo. But i am going to give marlin a call tomorrow and see what they say. To me the fireing pinn looks like it is hitting center and hard like it should but i am not a expert at all. But i have herd from a few guys at the range that they have had the same problem with mis fires with remington cor lok ammo.

I called marlin this morning and i have to pay the shipping and handeling to send it to some place in minnesota and he said they would fix it casue it under warrenty. Whats the Best way to ship a gun? whats the best way to package a gun? Do i take the scope off?
|
I'd take off the scope, sling, anything you put on it before shipping it.

UPS, Just make an user account on UPS and print a shipping label, a lot less hassle.

marlin misfire
don't send you rifle back just quit buying remington junk
buy fed or winchester ammo |
First time I ever heard of a rifle & the ammo experiencing "buck fever" .....LOL !!!
Listen to Ridge - find some new ammo that your gun will still shoot good groups with. |
