Thanks RR I'm looking to put it a 243.Does it pretty much drop in or do you need to do a little sanding

Boyd's Stocks?

I have two, one long action and one short action; both for Savage/Stevens rifles.
The short action is a staggered feed internal magazine and was 100% drop-in. The long action is the newer straight feed internal box. It required some fitting in the magazine well to get proper feeding.
I like both of these stocks.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

Ok thanks Jigger when you put the screws back in do you guys use any locktite?

Bought one for my ruger m77 mk2, the action fit nice but the holes for the floorplate is a little off and you have to have a kung fu grip to close the latch it shut.

skb2706 02-08-2011 07:40 AM

This is one of their laminated varmint stocks on an old Savage long action.
Far as I know "nobody" makes a wood stock that doesn't need bedded.
This one was unfinished and required minor fitting to get it the way I wanted it. For a bench gun its great but I wouldn't want to carry it on a hunting trip.

jerry d 02-08-2011 10:18 AM

I like it!!!!!!!!!!

sqezer 03-04-2011 12:24 PM

I have 4 of them and they worked out great. Some times they need a little tender care to get everything to match up put still a good stock. I'm in the process of doing a Nutmeg Laminate, and it will be stained in Evergreen or Newburyport Blue from Cabot, then sealed for my .45 Knight Disc Elite.

glockman55 03-04-2011 02:48 PM

Sometimes you might have do some fitting, on my Mod.116, Sav, weather warrior I had to take a bunch out of the barrel Chanel, and some out of the action..you want to make sure the barrel isn't touching..

a dremel tool is a must..good luck

jerry d 03-05-2011 05:14 AM

Nice looking rifle Glockman.I didn't get mine yet cause i'm still laidoff.I'm gonna have my gunsmith fit & bed it for me when i get it.

I bought one last year for my Winchester Mod 70 in a 30-06. It was a finished laminated stock. Nice looking, but I could never get it to fit right. Floor plate wouldn't open, once I got that to work ok, the bolt couldn't open. I put the old stock back on.

I've heard this from a few guys including my gunsmith. That's why i'll let him do it. He's charging $175 to bed the action & fit the stock and touch-up any finish that he's got to remove to fit the barrel.........IMO it's worth it cause i've never done it before.

bulldog18 03-18-2011 07:59 AM

Installed serveral in my shop. Good quality at a very good price. Never had too many issues fitting or finishing their stocks.

Rob in VT 04-02-2011 05:52 PM

Jerry,

I just got my Win Model 70 (30-06) back from the gunsmith. Fitted, glass bedded, aluminum pillars, custom crown on the end of the barrel, new Leupold base and rings, and a new Swaro to top it off :party0005:

jerry d 04-03-2011 05:28 AM

Very nice Rob!!!!! That's the color stock i'm looking to get...nutmeg.Rob if you dont mind me asking what did the smith charge you for the work you had done?

Rob in VT 04-03-2011 06:41 AM

Jerry,

Fitted, glass bedded, aluminum pillars, and custom crown on the end of the barrel came to $180. I also bought the Leupold base and rings from him and he mounted and bore sighted the scope for $60.

Hope this helps . . . Rob

jerry d 04-03-2011 10:29 AM

Man that's alot better price than my smith. He wants $175 to fit the stock and bead the action.

sqezer 05-14-2011 05:19 PM

Boyd make a good Laminated stock, another is Richards Stocks, Hard Woods and Laminated Stocks.

liquidorange 05-24-2011 02:55 PM

jdhogg 06-17-2011 07:44 AM

has anyone tried their featherweight thumb hole stocks yet?im looking for a more comfortable stock for my hands

jerry d 06-23-2011 03:14 PM

i've been hemming and whoring over this stock for quite a while.at the present moment i think i'm just gonna stick with the synthetic stock that the gun came with.
although this dicission is subject to change..........lol.

I have a Boyds Featherweight TH stock for my 700ML build. I have not put it on the gun yet but it feels really nice when you shoulder just the stock. The recoil pad is not the best but when I called Boyds to get some stock advice I was told they will be coming out with a better recoil pad soon.

gman57 07-29-2011 07:57 AM

I put one on my 7.65 Arg. an unfinished featherweight and it did require additional inletting (due to many different dimensions of Mauser actions) but I bedded it,and floated the barrel and all was fine it was what I expected and was very happy with it.

Muley Hunter 10-17-2011 06:02 AM

Guys on the Marlin forum love them. They put them on the XS7/XL7 guns. From what I read. They just bolt them on with no problems, and the barrel is full floating.

jerry d 01-10-2012 01:05 PM

My Boyds Classic is here!!!!

Gunplummer 01-15-2012 07:42 PM

I bought some semi-inletted over the years for lever guns. I can't complain about the machine work, but the walnut was not great. it was kind of soft and sucked to checker.

jerry d 01-17-2012 02:56 PM

Just got it back from the smith i'll post pics tomorrow

harter66 01-17-2012 07:19 PM

I bought 2 for a couple of old small ring Mausers . The GI 7x57 was an absolute drop in needing only just a gental touch up at the front of the rear sight. Now the 2nd 1 will need much more work while all the parts fit ,the front screw hole just misses however its the metal not the wood. Also substantual bbl channel work will be neede to get the Adamms & Bennet bbl down in the 1st 6" or so in front of the action. Finishing was as simple as could be since I wanted a nice satin oil finish. Other points of intrest , I contured the rear of the stock the match the action shape and reduced the wrist area forward to the trigger guard as neeeded to fit me along w/removing a little from the comb as to see the irons well.

The Hunter stock we chose while rather plain at 1st look is well liked by all that have seen it and is amazing for just $56 from Midway USA. I fully expect to buy another for the BRNO Whelen build later in the year.

Here's a quick link to the basic story. Too dumb to get pix in here I guess.
