Sako or Tikka

I was curious as to what the major differences are between a Sako and a Tikka? Both are said to be excellent rifles, but there must be somthing more to the Sako to warrant hundreds of more dollars on the price tag. In particular I was wondering about the Stainless Synthetic versions in .338 Win Mag.

Sako & Tikka, they both have barrels made by the same company. They both have the same accuracy guaranty with free floating barrels. They both have very nice and smooth actions. They both have adjustable triggers and a 70° bolt lift. They both can use the Optilock mounting system which is very nice.

The Sako has no plastic parts. The Sako clip holds more rounds. The Sako has 5 different lengths of action to match the cartridges as the Tikka has only one long action. I might have missed a couple of things but that pretty well sums it up. I prefer the Sako rifle because of no plastic parts, the clip, the different action lengths, the synthetic stock and that’s why I have one and I’m looking for another one very soon. The end result is the one that’s buying the rifle should be happy.;)

Own both. Though I have been a staunch defender of Tikkas there is little doubt that the Sako is a fancier grade of rifle. The question becomes is it worth the difference in price TO YOU. This is a question only you can answer. A Tikka T-3 will run you about 480 to 500 dollars. A Sako 75 will run you about 1100. I personally cannot see any difference in the trigger, smoothness of the action or overall accuracy between the two. Some dislike the polymer trigger guard and magazine of the Tikka. I have not found them to be problem. If money is tight or 1100 to 1200 is all you have to spend then I'd get the Tikka and spend the remainder on a good scope. If money is no object then by all means get the Sako.
