7MM-08 Good Day @ The Range

Shot some work up loads today of 140 Sierra Game Kings on top of Varget. Five 3 shot groups averaged .733" CTC @ 100Yds with 4 out of 5 groups sub MOA. Rifle: Rem 700 Mtn LSS

Here is a couple of the best groups.

Also shot some work up loads for 150 Grn Nosler BT's on top of Varget. They didn't shoot as tight as the Game Kings but even so overall Average group size was just a little over an inch. Maybe I need to try the 140Grn BT's

Those 7-08's sure seem to like Varget. Nice groups!

Wow - that LSS is a keeper. And that bullet will hunt as well . . . . Looks like your work here is done.

If you do not plan to hunt anything larger than deer with that peticular rifle, I would stop load development right there!! The 140 gr Game Kings will kill deer, no problem, no point in fixing something that isn't broken. Good shooting!!

Told ya' those Rem 700 Mtn LSS were good rifles. :D Mine, a 270Win., shoots pretty good too. I've only used factory ammo, but I've gotten a lot of 1" groups with her.
BTW, good shootin'!

Thanks everyone!!! It sure is a treat to get one that shoots like that right out of the box. I did adjust the trigger to 2 1/2 Lbs, but other that that, its straight factory. When I bought this rifle, I was planning up front to have it pillar/glass bedded and free float the barrel. At this point I'm kinda having second thoughts about doing any thing to it.

This is primarilly a deer rifle; however, I hunt the mountians of NW Arkansas so there is always the chance of a black bear or a big hog. I took a black bear this past season on the opening day of deer muzzleloader season. With that said, I will definitely be working up a little heavier Nosler Partition load and will probably try the Accubonds and/or Interbonds as well.

Also need to work up a good coyote load. Anyone got a good 7MM-08 critter load I can start with?

In the words of Chris Lapp "You have done well, pilgrim". Now all you have to do is shoot a one shot group to find out where the bullets go from a clean barrel. Try one shot, every day for a week. Then you'll know where the most importatant shot is goin'. Some folks like to do one shot groups in different weather conditions, just for extra insurance. ;)
