question on price of ammo
i recently decided to try some different ammo for my 7mm rem mag. after 10 years of shooting nothing but remington 150 gr coreloks i decided to try winchester silver tips.
i was in galyons-eerrr dicks yesterday nad started looking. i orig picked up 160 grain bullets thinking that this was the right choice. price $34.99 box. then i found some 150 grain silvertips. price $24.99. whats up with that? does the production cost of 150 grain that much cheaper than 160's? does anybody know? john |
RE: question on price of ammo
o2bebowhunting,
The only 160 GR 7mm mag cartridges I know of are the accubond cx's, the 150's are ballistic silvertips. If what you had were the Accu-bonds, I think the MSRP is around 41.00 per box. They are expensive. Not that the silvertips are cheap. |
RE: question on price of ammo
Wow. That's expensive ammo. Does it come with a freezer full of meat? Last time I bought 7mm ammo I ordered a box of 175 gr. corelocks (Remington ammo) and they shipped me a case. This was about 20 years ago, I believe the price was around $12 a box. I've shot less than a box of it and have a LOT of it left. Luckily, it shoots MOA in my Sako mannlicher style rifle.

RE: question on price of ammo
swampman--so the accubond cx's are better than the silvertips?
thanks |
RE: question on price of ammo
Accubonds are bonded, and supposely won't fragment, and silvertips are not. Yea, they are better for faster rounds over 3000fps.

RE: question on price of ammo
I don't buy much ammo as I have reloaded since the early 60's. However when I do I usually buy Federal with Premium bullets such as the Partitions and Gamekings. Ammo prices very a lot. Remington Corlokts are about the cheapest where I live. I get them at Walmart for 9.00 - 12.00 a box as a rule.

RE: question on price of ammo
I'm sorry, but I'm going to bash Dick's again. We had one that opened in my home town a couple of months ago and I did some comparison pricing of some items I had recently bought. They were 20-30% higher in price and their customer service was nonexistant. Try a Wal Mart or Academy if you have one in town.
