Anyone have any comments about the lightweight 12ga semi-auot by Traditions or the Stoeger/Luger ??

I don't know about the Traditions but I did recently have a good look at the Stoeger Model 2000. I had read a lot about them and had gotten the catalog earlier this year but had not actually been able to get my hands on one to look it over until last month. Here's my 2 cents worth on the gun.

First off, it is light and points well. The inertia recoil action is more of a Benelli/Franchi hybrid. It has the rotating bolt but the recoil spring is around the magazine tube instead of in the stock, which could be good from a maintenance standpoint. From the dealer I was talking to, they have been selling them for 3 years with no returns (biased opinion makes the sale). The one he was trying to sell me (NIB) had a bent rib about half way down the barrell. Anyway, to make a long story short, the gun felt cheap- every part of it. Mind you I never fired it, but just in stripping it down and examining the parts and working the action, it just didn't seem to be all that durable. That said, it does come with a lot of nice features for less than $500, 5 chokes, synthetic or camo stocks, the shell/carrier release like on the SBE, etc.

I bought a Beretta Pintail ES-100 for $30 more and think I made a wise decision. Very similar gun from a much more reputable manufacturer.
