Good grief, no wonder we take so much crap off of the liberal media. We deserve it. I mean we are sitting here argueing what a tactical/sniper rifle is. If you can't figure it out, then you really got left behind in the intelligence department.

I had no idea this issue would spark the debates it has. I think all the information and debating is great.
The term "tactical rifle" is subjective to people as found all through this thread.

When i started this thread i kinda figured a few people would like to discuss their firearms that are not generaly found out still hunting.
Aparently a few of us have become scared to express our freedom of speach and say " SNIPER RIFLE"
For crying out loud! What do you call the men and women in the armed forces who are trained to "snipe",(yes its a word -look it up) and what would you call their rifles? i personaly would refer to their firearms as a sniper rifle - this is just my two cents though.

aparently i am not aware how calling a sniper rifle a "sniper rifle" is adding fuel against gun owners and hunters -
oh well i suppose from here on out i will have to refer to a sniper rifle as a "black ouchy thing with a scary scope that hurts people from a long distance"...

This is the desciption of the gun your discussing from the Marines website. Notice it specifically states that is gun is used by "snipers". If you are stating that the gun does not hold MOA, then clearly that is not always relevant to the Marines definition of Sniper
"The M82A1A Barret .50bmg is designed to provide commanders the tactical option of employing SNIPERS with an anti-materiel weapon to augment the present anti-personnel M40A1 7.62mm weapon....USMC"

The definition of a Marine Scout/Sniper: "A Marine highly skilled in field craft and marksmanship who delievers long range precision fire at selected targets from concealed positions in support of combat operations."
Nowhere in that definition does it state anything about which weapon system they use to conduct their job.
Snipers use the M82A1 because they know how to employ a scoped weapon better than most, but, snipers aren't the only ones who use it. LAR, for instance... 10th Marines (Arty) use it, but it is not a "sniper rifle."
The reason that you need a precision weapon such as the M40A3 which is capable of holding that minute of angle is due to the nature of the beast. When employing the M82, it is typically, as you quoted, an anti-material weapon. When you are shooting a light skinned vehicle, precision just sometimes doesn't matter. That, is also why it is not a "sniper rifle."
