RE: 7mm Ultra Mag

Coincidently many of the 1000 yard rifles now being used in competition burn more than 80gr of powder per shot.
I doubt these guy take thier cases and FL them either, wouldn't you say?

Wanted to thank everyone for all their replies and suggestions. I sold the 7mm RUM for $400.00. Don't see reloading in the near future, so my next purchase will be a standard cartridge rifle where factory ammo is plentiful.

No they don't but that doesn't change the fact that these rifles are extremely accurate and burn more than 80gr of powder per shot.

The fact I am making is I am a hunter first and foremost. And like to FL my cases. Is that easier to understand?

I FL my cases too but with the tighter custom chambers in my rifles it doesn't seem to hurt accuracy much if at all. With a factory chamber the situation might be different though.

At this point and time I own 3 Ultra Mag's, 2 in 7mm RUM LSS, Sendero SF and 1 in 300 RUM LSS. They are all sub 1/2" groups @ 100 yds. I also reload my own ammo for these guns and wouldn't swap, sell or trade for a 7mm RM or 300 WM because they in no way compare to the RUM's. Your best bet would be to start reloading to get the max performance out of your rifle and load with the type bullet you want. If you want to rebarrel to the 300 RUM you can get a new take off barrel from ebay at around $50.00.

Wow, your just a super duper shooter. So far on three posts, every thing you pull out of your safe shoots .5MOA. Thats pretty incredible. You even measure your groups down the the thousands.

I'm not a super duper shooter. It's just if the gun want shoot sub 1" groups I have very little use for it. Have a Weatherby 300 mag that just will shoot 1" groups and a Savage 308 that want shoot 3" groups but it was a gift from my father so why complain. But I do like those RUM'S.

I'm with BigJim, if you enjoy reloading the RUM are worth it IMO. I grew up in Wyoming, hunting big canyons and fairly long shots. I grew up shooting a 7mm mag and swore I would never trade anything for it. Only thing I have is for the 7mm RUM. It just stretches you out that much further and flattens the already great 7mm bullet. It's the one gun out of all I own, I would take if I had to only pick one gun. The RUM's are worth it, but seem to fit a certain type of hunter and you MUST be a reloader. If your not, do like he did and sell it. Factory loads are worthless and expensive for the RUMs.
