.45 acp ammo

What is a low cost ammo for target shooting? How good is Wolf ammo? or Magtech? With Wolf I was wondering cause it says made in Russia. I am shooting a Ruger and was looking for something that is a good low cost round for taget shooting.Thanx

Go to Walmart's sporting goods section and ask for winchester white box value packs. ~19.99/100. Its good stuff and priced right.

Wolf ammo works great in commie guns built to commie specs, but I don't see the point in owning a $700 .45 and running questionably cheap ammo through it.

MagTech is Brazilian and I believe the US imports are SAAMI spec. Anyway, it is brass cased and Boxer primed. I don't care for Wolf ammunition. Steel cased ammo works fine, but as a reloader I'm always looking for reloadable cases.
Look for the plain box Winchester or Remington/UMC plain box. Should run about $10 per 50, I've seen Magtech and Fiochi for as little as $8.50 per 50. Will all work, and work well.
Learn to handload, then price will not be such a factor in your shooting.

Briman, you've got to remember he's shooting a Ruger here....first off, it's bombproof, and secondly, it's not a $700 gun!!! The most I ever paid for a Ruger P-series was $328...and I'd certainly put my p series guns up against any of my higher priced factory guns!!!!

Anyway, Wolf is dirt cheap, and pretty dirty, but for low cost plinking, it's not going to hurt your gun. The only complaints I've had with Magtech is that I get gas blowback around the primer quite a bit that has pitted a few bolt faces on my guns. These aren't accuracy hounds by any means, but they're not going to hurt your gun if you just want to get some lead down range.

Winchester white box ammo is a pretty good deal. It's often on sale two for one around here, typically I pay something around $15/100 for it.

If you really want to start saving money, start reloading, you can get precision ammo for cheaper than the cheapest of plinking ammo that way.

the wolf ammo is fine. i shoot 1000's of them a year in my .45 and my .223. believe it or not i have less trouble with wolf shells than i do with remington loads. if my life was on the line i may use something differant but for killing a pop can, a bottle, an old stove or just putting a hole in a piece of paper they are fine. then if you miss you can blame it on the shells. all kidding aside they are pretty good shells. i have never had one fail to fire or fail to eject. if you are going to buy the gun to shoot 500 or a 1000 rounds a years the more costly shells would be fine. but if you bought the gun to shoot then the wolf is what you want. we shoot to many to reload and to many to buy the over priced. the more ya shoot the better you get. :)

Get into reloading. You will never regret it. I load 200 grain wad cutters for plinking and target shooting. The Ruger will feed them without a hick-up. For pistol loads I use the Lee Turret press. Its cheap and works great. I also have a Lee Progressive 1000. With that I can load 400-600 rounds per hour. They are not much over a 100 bucks. I think. Its been a while since I have checked. Check with Midway USA.

So far the only rounds I tried was the Federal American Eagle ball rounds and today I got 150 rounds of Ultra Max. I found that the Federal was more accurate. I am still gonna try Remington UMC and Winchester white box but thanx every one for your input. I am gonna shoot about 100 rounds a week to get use to my gun. That's why I was concerned about price.

I use CCI Blazer ammo for plinking. Cheap stuff, but it works.
