Savage 99 conversion question
I have an OLD Savage model 99 chambered in 303 savage. I haven't shot it at all in probably 15 years because ammo must be special ordered at about $50 a pop.
I've recently started to toy with the idea of having in converted to another caliber... what do you all think would be the easiest/most inexpensive conversion. Anybody ever rechambered a 99 who can give me some advice?

RE: Savage 99 conversion question
Yeah, that's what I thought. I was hoping to do it a bit easier than that, so I was leaning towards a 30-30. But, who wants a 30-30??? I did think about the 300 and 308, but thought I'd have to gut it. Thanks for confirming!

RE: Savage 99 conversion question
I have rebarreled/rechambered a number of Savage 99's - but I wouldn't do this one. The .303 Savage has a case head about .020 bigger than the .30-30; and would be more trouble than the gun is worth to alter all the things that would need to be altered to convert this gun to something more modern. Either hang it on the wall, or buy up all the ammunition you can now and keep shooting it as a .303 Savage.
