Actualy I am short,you know I even shoot a youth rifle in 7-08,and had the stocks cut down on my 25-06 and .243.But just cause I'm short dose not interfear with my ability to shoot.

I have not given up on the 7-08 I have one for sale an I'm keeping one,I bought one for a short mountain rifle for elk.I would be intrested in the load you used on your elk.

I have a tough time putting my magnums away when elk are on the menu,I still think for a unseasond elk hunted on their first trip you can't beat the 06,as for the 7-08 best left to the experts like Buckshot,can't argue with a dead elk.;)

You got it, but first a cover my butt disclaimer. The following load worked well in my gun without any pressure signs, that doesnt mean if you try it in your gun it wont explode and kill you, your children, your grand children and anyone else within shrapnel distance. Now having said that. Here ya go
140 Gr Barnes XLC
50.5 Grains H380
CCI 250 Mag Primers
This load crony graphed between 2,934fps and 2978fps in my 22 barreled Savage, this load is .5 grains below max and you should start 2grs below this powder level. This load is flat out super accurate in my gun, I have had several 3 shot groups at 200 yards where you could cover almost cover all 3 holes with a nickel.

Jack, just make sure you dont try this load with other bullets, that load is specificly for Barnes XLCs. I like the 139gr Hornady SPBT for deer myself, excellant penetration and great expansion without fragmentation.

It won't be used on deer,it will be a saddle gun,quick,easy to shoot.When I bought the gun it was going to be a short saddle gun for elk,but when I seen it on deer I was leary.I will try the xcl's and see what happens.

Thanks guys for all your imput. I think I'm going to buy one. I like the 7mm-08, and Savages I heard are good guns. I like the accutrigger.
