TWO SHOT ZERO
 

I'D JUST LIKE TO HEAR THE OPINIONS ON THE TWO-SHOT ZERO TECHNIQUE. I.E.
BORE SIGHT THE SCOPE. FIRE THE FIRST SHOT FROM A SOLID REST. WHILE LOOKING THROUGH THE SCOPE, MOVE THE CROSSHAIRS OVER THE HOLE FROM THE FIRST SHOT. THE SCOPE IS THEN SIGHTED IN. I'VE USED THIS FOR A QUICK SIGHT IN AND HAD GOOD RESULTS. PROS? CONS?

I have a Brute Tightgroup rest that allows the firearm to be velcroed down into the rest. This technique works perfectly for the second shot. However the gun then must still be "rezeroed" without the interference of the rest. (Assuming this gun will be shot freehand in the field)

If you gun shot all bullets to the same point of aim it would in theory work.However since most hunting guns shoot groups of MOA or larger there is a lot of room for error.

I USE THIS TECHNIQUE QUITE A BIT. THERE'S USUALLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF TWEAKING, BUT OVERALL IT'S WORKED WELL FOR ME.

It works...and save a crap-load of ammo
Its a great way to get the gun real close real fast. Final tweaking will always be needed to account for all the little variables, but if you have a solid immovable rest/vice, this is a great way to get it where you want it in a hurry.

i just used that system today in fact and all i have to say is awsome, i cant believe all the fartin around i used to do all the past years trying to get it "just right". today i just shot, zeroed it in and shot again, dead on, then i moved the crosshair adjustment up 14 clicks to make it shoot 3.5 inches high, shot again, found it shot 4" high, turned it down 2 clicks, shot one more time and it was perfect. i shot about 30 rounds after that and everyone was where it was supposed to be, i got groupings anywhere from 1 1/4" down to all three shots touching.

I think it'll definately get you into the ballpark with a minimum amount of ammo, but I would not trust the zero without firing at least one (minimum) 3 shot group to verify the zero. If you can fire two shots, you can fire five or ten. Ammo is cheap...wasting a tag (and maybe a trip) and blowing a once-in-a-lifetime shot because you didn't shoot enough rounds to verify your zero and based your sight-in on a flyer is expensive. I can handload 20 rounds of ammo for my most expensive cartridge for about $1/round. That's less than the cost of a resident deer tag in most places.

I used to have a 1 shot sighting rig I purchased about 18 years ago and it worked on the same principle...It worked but POI was different shooting the guns from the rest vs off a regular rifle rest or Bull bag

Swampman, you're and Olde Dog at this ain't ya? That's the
way it use to be taught and it worked for years,untill all this
fancy stuff came out.

Just a little Southern windage,that's all.
