blued guns suck, need a new finish.
I have a Dan Wesson Monson, 15-2 357mag pistol pack and a Winchester model 70 syn. featherweight both have blued barrels and both drive me nuts.
I prefer stainless in a target grey, the black of my nova, or bead blasted. The figer prints and marks left on these guns are not of my liking. I will be perchaseing some white gloves to clean the 4 barrels of my pistol pack until it is refinished. I say a dan wesson website were the guy refinished a handun at home, any tips or anything a gunsmith can due to strip the blueing and provide a more durable finish for PA hunting conditions, and ccw. |

I've had E.A Brown put thier "french Gray" finish on a blued encore barrel. Very reasonalbe price and great looking finish. I have also heard really good things about the Black T finish. I know of a gunsmith here in alaska that says its the most durable finish he has ever seen used here.

Blued guns suck alright if you are too lazy to wipe them off with a soft cloth before putting them away! |

Spoken like a man who has never hunted in alaska. YOu spend 10 days in the rain, everything is wet, nothing left dry to wipe the gun down with. Throw in a little salt spray from hunting the coastlines you have a great recipe for rusting a gun right before your eyes. Blued guns are fine for people who only carry thier rifle to and from thier hunting stand, and have a nice dry home to come back to every day. One cheap alternative is a good coating of ultra flat paint. The french gray seems to be a really nice finish from EA brown. Decent price and great turn around time. http://www.eabco.com/cssfg.html |

i know that the last couple of years the hunting conditions during rifle season here in PA has been perfect for your gun to rust right under your eyes, espically this year. i have 2 deer guns that i use depending on the weather. either a 700 bdl in 30-06 for the nicer days and a savage mod. 16 with s/s in 270 for the crappy days. i clean everyone of my guns about once or twice a week. and i make sure they are taken fully apart and cleaned everynight of deerseason. and have still managed to get a tiny bit of rust on my savage.
