what is your favorite shotgun?
I went clay pigeon shooting today and used my first pump shotgun, i got it for christmas from my dad when i was 15. I almost forgot how nicely the gone would swing into shots, after not using it for so long, since i usually pick one of my other higher dollar shotguns over it for most of my shooting and hunting indevors. after today I will have to honestly say that old mossberg 500 12 gauge is my favorite, not to mention the sentimental value it holds from the days of my youth when my father would take me shooting or hunting.
Id just like to hear others feelings and thoughts about their first or favorite shotgun. this post isnt for trying to sell your biassed opinions towards others about your prefered brand or to push folks with your opinions to sway them into buying whatever you have. I want to hear about your great hunts or stories about your favorite shotgun, nothing like those nastalgic feelings we get when we look back. |
RE: what is your favorite shotgun?
Mossberg Cruiser with a Beamshot laser. I'm getting pretty good at hitting plate sized targets out to 75 yrds from the hip with slugs. I can't wait to try it out next fall during deer season.

had the same type experiences with my fathers Ithica 37 featherweight, been years since I shot it, but it is always nice to shoot a round of trap with it even though I own alot higher end guns.

RE: what is your favorite shotgun?
My first shotgun was a Winchester 101 12 Ga....and I'd still have it today but someone took it when I wasn't looking.....Today I shoot Citoris and SKB O/U and side/sides.....they just fit and work well for me.....
If you're one that likes the good quality pumps I'd say they're as good as the higher priced twin tubes.....it's merely a matter of personal preference. |

My grandfathers Auto-5. I loved it. I like the feel of the forearm. It has heft to it, but other than that, handled like a dream. Never missed a beat. Best times I remember with it is going to the old coal mine sludge ponds and shooting bats at dusk when I was around 12. I know most people don't do that. But for some reason those memories stick out in my head.
Now that poor gun is argued over and taken by my uncle even though my grandmother told me it was mine several times. Beutiful gun is a major source of contraversy with my family. |

Mossy, in 1984 my father brought me two AYA's SxS from Spain.
One in 12ga and a 20ga. |

Beutiful gun is a major source of contraversy with my family. I never actually shot a A-5 but did shoot a friend of mines UMC which looked identical to a A-5, that old UMC fits exactly what you described about your grandfathers gun. The gun was a great shooter with trap loads, but obviously was not made to shoot 2 3/4" turkey magnums my buddy and I went on a turkey hunt he brought that UMC, the first morning of the hunt I called a decent tom in my buddy lined up on it and fired and the rear stock split in two, we determined the force of the turkey load broke the spring retainer in the stock which led to cracking the stock aswell. he was bummed big time since that shotgun was originally his grandfathers, who had bought it new when he was 19 just before being drafted to army in the early 40's. |
