Pse- Moose too!

Like StubbleJumper mentioned, plus the ammo is cheaper.
If you don't load your ammo, you are going to have excessive
Free Bore with Weatherby Ammo!

I would go with 300UMAG.

It's what I use. I haven't drawn a moose tag here (Idaho) yet, but it works find on elk. My only complaint is the 26 inch barrel that Wby puts on these guns - I'd like it closer to 24 inches.

The 300wby mag is a very good elk cartridge but I prefer the 300ultramag as it provides sightly more performance with cheaper factory loads and similar priced brass.

If you don't mind the cost of ammo and don't think the WBY will do the job. Go for the 30-378. That will GIT R DONE. Go for the accumark with the accubrake for easy target practice on the 300 or 30-378. Take it off for field shooting. I just bought a WBY 30-378 and I also own a 243. The 243 kicks more than the WBY with brake.

oh my...........how we get off on these threads, poor dude asks for info on a 300 weatherby and next thing you know, were putting him behind a 30-378!!! geesh.......

pse, if you have handled a 300 wby and it fits you, buy it! It will be plenty enough for just about anything in North America. If you hand load....even better! There is a plethera of bullets readily available in .30 cal. If you do not hand load, the 300 rum PROBABLY would be easier on the pocket book as far as ammo is concerned but if you have your heart set on a 300 wby go for it!!! Ballistically the 300 rum and 300 wby are close. I have no experience with a 300 wby so I cant tell you about it, but as long as you are happy and the gun fits you, buy it.

If you drop a 300 rum or 300 wby from 26 to 24" in barrel length, you might as well go buy a 300 win mag. These guns were designed for 26" barrels that is where they pick up their velocity gain.

Besides the 300 Win Mag is gods plenty of rifle for anything in NA. As would be the 300 WSM. For me the 30-06 gets it done easily. I had a Mark Five 300 Weatherby for a couple years. It didn't do anything the 300 Win mag wouldn't do a lot cheaper and with less Recoil.

Total agreement on that what does it do that any 300 win or WSM can't do?
