adjusting Remington 710 trigger to 1.5#
I love my Remington 710 in 30-06. I have an AWC .30 Thundertrap Suppressor on it that works great with the 8-40x56 Tasco Target Scope. The only problem is that on 400-600m shots I notice the reticle tremble just before the sear release. I have searched every possible source that I can think of to find how to lower the trigger weight. If you have any suggestions, please email me directly [email protected]
Thanks for your help My next purchase will be a Savage 16FSS w/ AccuTrigger in 300WSM, but for now I need to work w/ what I have. |

I am aware of the various views on the Rem 710. Please just comment if you know how to adjust the factory trigger or know of an aftermarket trigger that can be installed.
As I already stated, my next purchase will reflect a widened view of the centerfire market. |

Can't be done.
If you wanted a long range target rifle you should have done your research before wasting money on the 710. They aren't cheap. |

710 has no SEAR and no moving parts in Trigger assembly. The trigger is an electrical switch. |

You are talking about the etronix, not the 710.
From Remington's site: Here's how the Model 700 EtronX works: The electronic fire control has no moving parts other than the trigger. No sear to be released. No firing pin to strike the primer. Instead, an internal electrical circuit sends a charge through the system to our new electrically responsive primer. Closing the bolt on the cartridge establishes contact between the firing pin and the primer. When the trigger is pulled, the electronic circuit sends an electrical pulse through the firing pin directly to the primer. This all happens in less than the blink of an eye. Ignition is even faster, with near zero lock time (.0000027 seconds, actually), which virtually eliminates the effects of barrel movement after pulling the trigger. In fact, the bullet exits the barrel of the Model 700 EtronX before a mechanical firing pin could even hit the primer in a conventional rifle. The system also creates an exceptionally crisp trigger pull with 36% less travel than standard triggers. |

The 710 has a crappy potmetal single-stage trigger similar to the one that came on teh 788, except not near as good.

RE: adjusting Remington 710 trigger to 1.5#
The price you pay for a POS 710 doesn't cover the cost of the trigger group of an Etronix equipped rifle. The Etronix rifle has an MSRP of over $1000, and I've never even seen one on a dealers shelf so I don't have a clue what they actually retail for, but it's gonna be a LOT more than a 710.
You can't polish a turd. The trigger is non-adjustable, and you probably won't find a gunsmith who will work on it either. Not to mention that that rifle isn't worth a $50-75 trigger job anyway. You bought what, in the gun world, is the equivalent of a disposable razor. It doesn't cost much, gets the job done, and when its outlived its usefulness, you throw it away and get another one. It's designed to be an economy, no frills hunting gun that is better than nothing. This will be a lesson to you to do a little more research before you buy your next special purpose rifle. Mike |

I would look for a set trigger rather than reduce the weight on the factory trigger this light. A weight less than 3 lbs. is not what I would recommend for an all purpose hunting rifle. This is much too light. Many set triggers are very smooth and use a 3 to 3.5 lb. standard trigger with a contact set trigger. Canjar makes a quality replacment, set trigger system that is excellent. Shop for one matched for your 710 and you'll have the best of both worlds.

Guys don't rub salt in the poor guys wound. He says he loves his 710.If he's happy with it that's all that counts.Anyone with gun experience knows the 710 is cheaply made.Like mentioned a throw away rifle.I personally wouldn't own one on a bet. That's what makes the world go around. Everyone likes something different.Going back to the original question. Nothing can be done to lighten the trigger on your 710.Shoot it like it is.Plus even if something could be done to lighten the trigger why throw more money into something that will never be much of a rifle.Chalk it up to experience.Next time do some research and ask questions. You mentioned you want a Savage. I think we'll all agree that's a much better rifle for about the same money as the 710.

RE: adjusting Remington 710 trigger to 1.5#
Just a comment on the 710. I have always shot 700 rems. they are my favorite bolt action rifles (a personal pref.). I recently purchased a 710 as a "truck gun". It gets left in the truck all the time, and while it is not a 700, I have taken 4 hogs, 2 coyotes, and a bobcat with it. It puts out 3" groups at 150 yds, but is still capable of taking out the trash and predators. The bobcat was taken at 120 yds, the coyotes at 160 and 75, and the hogs between 50 and 100 yds. Its not a great gun, and it has no place on the, but if you just want a cheap, not junk, hunting rifle for medium game, you cant beat it for the money. I gave 260 for it on sale.
In answer to your post, you would be better off saving your money, not upgrading the 710, and buying any decent savage, remington, or any other not-so-cheap rifle. Any money spent on upgrading a 710 is thrown away. It is a purpose designed cheap rifle. Glad you like it though. |
