Before you even think of reloading, buy yourself at least one of the major reloading manuals and read it from cover to cover. Reloading is enjoyable and saves you money but you really need a good source of data. I prefer the Hornady manual but they all have good reloading advise and date. A load that works great in one gun may not shoot worth beans in another gun. I have used the Hornady hollow points in my 243's and they are effective varmit getters.

Do you want the pelts, or do you just want them dead?
If you want the pelts, I'd go with a bullet designed for deer sized game like a 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip or Hornady SST. If you just want to kill the little b*****ds deader than a doornail right now, I'd go with the 55-75 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, which are the varmint versions designed to virtually explode on impact.

For 20 years now, I've loaded Sierra's 85gr HPBT Gameking. Out of my rifle, it'll shoot a one hole group off the bench at 100yds. I've taken many deer and other critters with this bullet and everything has pretty much dropped where it stood. I won't load anything else.

loading in several different rifles, and it never failed to be one of the most accurate of
any I used. If you want to handload you can get the same bullets from Sierra.
As already noted, get a good reloading manual first. They can be had from Hornady,
Sierra, Speer, Nosler, etc. (I used to have one of each).

One good load for one gun does not mean that its going to shoot well in yours. ALL rifle barrels are different just like women!!!!!!!! You will have to work with different loads, and bullet weights to find the one that really dials in your barrel. Once you,ve spent quality time doing that, then watch out your set up for anything. vangunsmith

have to agree with driftrider on this one
