They have a new model available this year that's a little heavier than the lightweight but not as heavy as the sporter. It's not on their website but is in their 2005 catalog. I'm looking at buying one in 7 mag. Let me know how you make out.

Check out this article on Outdoor Bests web site. Forgot to add it to my earlier reply.

Having owned just a few 300 wsm's and currently the owner of a Vanguard in that caliber not sure you want it that light but that is just me. As far as rifles go and that particular one I think it is the best bargain in the semi-custom business. Reciever is 17-4 stainless , teflon coated from the factory, beautiful cut-rifled barrel bedded in a super strong stock and solid SS bottom metal. I just don't know how you could do better. Good Luck with it I am sure you'll enjoy it.

Thanks Chopper I saw that new gun in the catalog too! They told me they were about 6
months out on delivery. It's going to weigh a pound more which might be a good thing with that load. The rep said he has the 300wsm in the pro lightweight with a sims custom pad and that the recoil is not as bad as you would imagine. I'm going to be trudging around the mountains for 2 full weeks so one quick jolt to the shoulder is probably the least of my worries. Let me know how you make out.
