Tips on cleaning a .22

Howdy

Any suggestions on what materials to use for cleaning a Ruger 10/22? How often do you clean your action? bore?

I don't, the wax on the bullets, keeps the bore from rustin'. I just wipe it down from time to time, and maybe clean out the carrier when it looks dirty.

Hi Grant...

With all my .22s, I run a few patches when I run out of one brand of ammunition and start with another. Sight in again and good to go until then next brand goes on sale...

Good Luck,
CE

I use the Otis Cleaning system on mine. It allows you to clean in the direction of the bullet. I take it to the range and clean the bore before the barrel cools down. The lead and powder fowling comes out a little easier when the barrel is warm.

All guns need to be cleaned periodically. The 22lr. has rifiling that is not cut as deep and big game rifles. When it gets dirty your accuracy will be effected! So yes,ju;st like any gun, clean it after shooting it,and you will have more consistant accuracy, and a better functiional firearm. vangunsmith

This isn't going to help much, but I agree 100% with what Slamfire said.:D

I just spray gun scrub all over the inside of the action and bore, let it sit about 15 minutes then wipe out the action, run a bore snake down the bore 2 or 3 times the put a dry patch on the end of the bore snake run it through 1 or 2 more times then put a lightly oiled patch on the end of the bore snake and run it through again. and call it good.

go to rimfirecentral.com There is a product called the patch worm or something... I have one it is basically a modified weedwacker string you use to pull a patch through... For 5 bucks it is great. Also remember you are not going to be shooting jacketed ammo in your 22 so you only will need a lead remover which is not really heavy duty,

I agree with slamfire. BUT I clean the bore every 10,000 rounds or so. NOT VERY OFTEN,the wax on the bullets actually HIGHTENED the accuracy of my savage Mark II .22.

And as for residue, the wax helps to keep the residue from STICKING.
