have question about 250 savage
 

I could have a chance at getting a savage 90 (?) cheep in 250 savage. I was told the gun is in perfect shape, the only problem is, the rifleing was messed up while being transported in a truck. A tool made its way into the muzzle messing up the rifling to about 2 cm. My question, if I buy this gun, can I have 2 cm of the muzzle cut off with out effecting the gun?

If the price was right I'd take it.....the 2 CM can be removed and the front sight be placed back a bit....it'll cost $150 or so...I'd gamble that the bore was in good shape....the .250 is a great gun for deer and some varmints

For that matter the rifling could even be recessed a bit and noting done to the sight.....dirt cheap!!! Just use a .257 throater!!!

Hope it goes for nothing...get it for a quarter!! LOL

If the 250 savage is anything like the 300 savage caliber i would snatch it up in a second.

When I was a kid we thought the cartridge was a ring tailed wonder. One of my classmates used his Dad's hand me down Savage Model 20, man that was a light rifle. Our Senior year a different fella bought a .257 and I got a .244, but the little Savage still didn't take a back seat. The earliest ones came with 1 in 14" rifling and wouldn't shoot any bullet heavier than 100 grains, but later on they went to a 10" twist and now they'll handle any bullet made for the quarter bore.

Well Ill find out today if the guy wants to sale it . Thanks for the info. I was looking at this gun for a toy. I have plenty of big rifles. I sold an old 243 and have missed it for plinking. I want this 250 to take hte place of my old 243.

You don't have to saw the bbl. off!!

When i was a kid you could buy army surplus rifles for about $5.00 out of a big wooden bbl. in a gunshop near us. All of them had a lot of muzzle damage, but my dad bought a few anyway. He didn't think is was worth the extra $$ to buy one that looked better so.... (i doubt he had the extra money anyway)

Anyway, once he got them home, he chucked up a drill bit just bigger than the bore, and with a hand drill he drilled down into the end of the bbl. Once he cleaned out all of the "bad spot", he'd take it out and shoot it. All but one shot really good right then, and the one that didn't, he drilled a bit more, and it also shot well too!!!

Looking at the gun you'd not notice what he did, but it was a very cheap fix and we right then had a few deer rifles for CHEAP!!! It was an inexpensive way for dad to get rifles for his "6 kids" without haveing to worry about us damageing them!

I shot my first deer with a $6.00 7.62 Russian rifle when i was about 13 ??, it was a really nice 8 point buck!! I shot my second deer with the same rifle a couple days later....

Do you mean a savage model 99? In 250 savage if so jump on it like you would jump on a super model. they are pretty valuable. It's one of the few rifles I would really like to own that I dont have.
