270
150 grain or 130 grain bullet for whitetail deer. What do you suggest? I hunt in ky, so that should give you some terrain info.
thanks |
RE: 270
You went to all the trouble of gettin' a .270, why put 150 grain bullets into it and slow it down to 7mm Mauser velocities.

RE: 270
130 grain bullets have always performed a bit better for me in a 270.

RE: 270
why not split the difference and go 140 gr accu-bond. from what Ive read they give the penitration of partitions but will the accuracy inherited from other ballistic tiped bullets.

ORIGINAL: superrman77 150 grain or 130 grain bullet for whitetail deer. What do you suggest? I hunt in ky, so that should give you some terrain info. thanks you could just split the difference and go with a 140gr. such as the Rem. Core-Lokt Ultra. I haven't tried them in my rifle yet, but looking forward to it one of these days. |
RE: 270
130 gr. all the way!!!

RE: 270
I shoot 130 grains through my Rem 700 BDL they shoot a whole lot flatter than the 150s. The difference between the 130 and 150 is when sighted in at 200 yds the 130 drop 43 inches at 500 yds and the 150s drop 60 inches at 500 yds. Go with the 130s they shoot equally as flat as a 150 grain 7mm.

RE: 270
another vote for the 130s I have had the best luck w/ them in my 270s.
if you want to shoot 150s get a .30-06 ;) |
RE: 270
Depend on where you hunt in ky. If you hunt in my old stomping grounds in the mountains of Eastern Ky, a 150 or 130 would work fine. When I hunt there, I use 130. Why? I got a bunch of rounds loaded up with 130gr gamekings I feel very confident in. When I lived there, I used whatever was on sale at K-Mart. But I ain't eating bread and water every day anymore either. But if you are in the rolling fields of central Ky, I would go for flattness of the 130. And most important, pick the one you feel you shoot the best. Confidense is half the battle.

RE: 270
If the 130 will take out a deer at 200yds, then it will take a deer out at 25yds. Been shooting 130s for years . It will work fine where your at. Don,t be fooled by a heavery bullet will knock a limb out of the way and go to its target, they all get knock of there way to the target if they hit somthing. GO 130
