It is a variant of the Mauser 98, built for Argentina in the Mauser factory at Obendorf. It is chambered in 7.65x53 the Argentine military cartridge, and is equivalent to the .308, except it uses .311 bullets. Finished in the white, it doesn't take a whole lot of work to sporerize, but is so handsome who'd want to. ;)

Thanks for the info slamfire I am not a mauser fanatic by far, there seems to be a good bit of history behind these guns, this gun is in good shape the wood stock has some minor battle scars but nothing major and it still has the old elavation sights, and it still holds a tight group, would you have any estamate on value, since i have thought about selling it or trading it, it doesnt just look right sitting along side remingtons, but if it has a descent value i may hold on to it.

If it is, indeed a .30/06, you likely have one of the 1909s that Century Arms couldn't sell in the original 7.65x53 Mauser. They rechambered them to .30/06, just ran a .30/06 reamer into the chamber, and lengthened it. UNFORTUNATELY, the bore diameter is still .311 or so, not the .308 diameter that is standard for US thirty calibers. These are a crap shoot, some will shoot .308 bullets well, some are mediocre, and some flat will not shoot them at all. If it doesn't shot well, try handloading a .30/06 case with .311 diameter bullets...kind of a .31/06!
