308 and 358 norma magnum's

how hard is it to find these calibers in a used gun rack?
also do any ammo manufactures make ammo for these rounds?

RE: 308 and 358 norma magnum's

Quilly, I've got a custom 308 Norma Mag. It has a Mauser action and the stock is maple. It's beautiful, and shoots even better. I had a guy load me a couple boxes 2 years ago, and recently bought 8 boxes (all the place had) at a local gun shop. They weren't cheap, ($30 per box) but it's an excellent caliber. I've always shot 180 noslers.

Real similar to the 300 win mag.

I haven't seen too many for sale, though...

gregwth7mmmag...

that is one reason why i check my local gunshops and the ones up in maine.i like to see calibers like you found on the racks. it makes me reach for my debit/credit card.
i hope you pick it up. it seems to be a nice round even though i have never had the honor to shoot one.seems to be a nice elk/moose gun.
especially since i like to be the one at camp with a differant round than anyone else.

I've seen a few .308 norma mags at local shops and gun shows. They were a popular conversion for mausers in the 50's. If you want to find one look for older custom guns. The ones I have seen were $350-$450. Good luck

i am always looking at my local gunshops for new and unique calibers that most people don't have or own.

gregwth7mmmag....
i looked at a recoil table and the 300ultra mag with a 8.0lb rifle kicks alitte less than the 450marlin. i don't know how true it would be.but i have been asking around at a local gunshop asking about the 8mm rem mag and they get them from time to time. he says it is a big bullet. but since it is only a 32 caliber bullet i would not know why he meant by it.
is the 8mm rem mag casing ( i know it is a 375H&H casing ) alot longer than a 30-06sprg casing?

RE: 308 and 358 norma magnum's

The 8mm case is a good deal longer than the .30-06 case. It's kind of like a .300Wby Mag. How does the .300Wby Mag fit in in that recoil table? How about the .45-70? I shoot both of these calibers. Also - have you started reloading yet? I know I ask you that every year. Just wondering if it started yet. That would make shooting odd ball cartridges a lot easier and cheaper. I couldn't afford to shoot that Weatherby but once a year if it weren't for reloading.
