RE: 7 mm Mag vs. 300 Win Mag

If you fire factory ammo and don't reload choose the 300. If you like to handload I would choose the 7MM. I am a handloader and with my Step-Dads 7MM I can get an honest 2900 fps with 175 gr. partitions. This bullet has a high b.c. and sectional density. I believe the 175 out of the 7MM will give the penetration that a 200 will out of the 300 with less recoil. I also believe the 175 out of the 7 to be better than the 180 out of the 300. The problem is that in factory ammo the 175 is only loaded to 2775-2800 fps. You can get this velocity out of light magnum ammo for the 30-06. The 175 will cleanly take elk & moose if you use good shot placement. Keep in mind bad shot placement out of the 300 is no more deadly. This is just my opinion and you will do well with either caliber. Good luck with whatever you choose.

.300 Win Mag No contest. My Friend used it when he was twelve for deer, said he hardly felt the recoil and the ballistics are way better than the 7mm
