Remington Model 572 BDL Fieldmaster
I am looking at getting a nice, solid .22 that is going to last me a lifetime. I have been looking at the Remington 572, but wanted to ask if anyone has any good knowledge about this gun. I am using this rifle for target practice and such, no hunting intended.
Any info would be great. Thanks, Grant |

Just my opinion, I think it is one of the best looking .22 auto's there is.I've shot a bunch of them and liked them all .They are not bench rest accurate ,But they shoot pretty dang good. I am looking for an older one now.I am also looking to get a fieldmaster too.If I am not mistaken the 572 is the speedmaster which is an auto the field master is the pump.

Well I'm trying to decide between the Ruger 10/22 and the Remington 572. Tough choice!

I dont like semi autos,it takes away from the accuracy,I would go with a bolt action, remington makes a good one.

The 572 Feild master is a pump .
I have 1 from the early 80's It is not a target rifle ! Just a good hunting or plinking rifle. If you want a "target " rifle look at a bolt action ,will also be a great plinker I would look at the Ruger 77/22 I like the K77/22-VBZ Or the Marlin BA 22's I like the 980v |

johnch The 572 Feild master is a pump . I have 1 from the early 80's It is not a target rifle ! Just a good hunting or plinking rifle. It was a really good little plinking rifle, and pretty good squirrel gun too. But, for target work you'd be better off with one of the Ruger target models in the 10/22 or 77/22, depending on wether you want a semi-auto or a bolt rifle. |

I ended up getting the Ruger 10/22. Now I have to figure out how to get this thing aiming to the center.

The Rem 572 is a pump as mentioned. It will shoot Shorts,Longs and Long Rifles. There is or was a BDL and a 572A.The BDL had different sights which I never cared for. When I got one I bought the 572A because of the sights.I contacted Remington. I got a BDL stock and Forend from them and they gave me credit on the A's stock and forend. These were a good shooting little rifle. As far as I know Remington dicontinued the 572A but continued the 572BDL.A very similar rifle only semi auto was Rem's 552.Those were discontinued sometime back. The receivers are grooved for the grooved scope rings.I would highly recommend a 572..

Remington 572
I had two Remington 553 BDLs and I would use them only for wheel chocks if that. They were useless. The manual feed handle for the bolt is on the worn side of the gun, it will not shoot sub sonic ammo at all, and jams frequently. I did buy the Remington 572 pump which handles any of the 22 ammo and does so extremely well. Is a great looking gun, will last a lifetime and is accurate as the shooter is. For sure is the best versatile 22 made. The trigger mechanism can be removed by pushing out only two pins which makes it great for cleaning or what ever.
I can't say enough good about the model 572 BDL, Is a great gun for any use. The semi auto is a piece of junk, a very unusual thing for Remington to produce. |
