I would not take anything larger than a rhino I don't care how good of a shot you are.

Sqrln8r i was wondering were your shot placement is on the yotes? I would like to take my 17hmr out and bag a couple of yotes but im not sure where i should try and place my shot. Ive read of peopel doing bord side hsots with even the ballistic tip bullets and getting good outcomes. Im thinking neck shots with teh ballistic tip's what bullet are you using also?

Stoke 'em hot and use the heavy 38 grain Swift A-Frames and you should be able to take most African plains game with them. Might be a little iffy for anything bigger than kudu, however.

ORIGINAL: Slamfire I'd have no objection to taking groundhogs with a .17 HMR if you were using the new heavier bullet, but I don't like the idea of shootin' 'yotes with it. I've done in a lot of 'yotes with a .22 Hornet, but they were hunted for hides, not just varmint control. As for small game, squirrels, rabbits, etc. nothing beats the .22 long rifle, without makin' a mess of the eatin' part. Hi Slam, I went to vist a friend that his grandmother has all the squirrels as pets with names.We were out side checking them out and his grandmother came to me and asked if I like squirrels, I replied Sure Do,They are Delicious! She just went back in the house and has never spoken to me again. |
