I'M Back With A Question?

Howdy All,Old 'Puter has been broke. If you remember I had just bought the Model 70 Winchester Classic Laredo LRH in 7 STW.Well I could not wait to get it set up to shoot.I took the one piece Leupold base off of my Model 70 Classic SM in 7MM REM. MAG. They look the same but the base is about 1/2" to short.I only have one screw in the front instead of two.Is the reciever longer in the STW ? Does anybody have any suggestions for mounting a scopeon this piece ? I like a one piece base,But I don't guess it is mandatory.I just want the strongest set up and enough travel to get the proper eye relief.( Really need the set back rings on the rem. mag. with all of the winter clothes on
)Still need to pick out a scope.Probally 6x20 or something like it .I'll take suggestions on that also. Thanks in advance ..SWAMP

Personally I like the two piece base over the one piece base. I don't like the "bridge" over the receiver being in the way and I prefer to have 4 screws holding the scope on rather than just three.
On a STW I would have a 3-12 or a 4-12. Not sure how much money you want to spend on optics but my choice would be a Burris signature select in 3-12X44 if you got the money for it.

You are going to have to buy a new set of bases and rings for you new gun,the reciver is longer than the 7mm mag,I also like the 2-piece base also.
The scope I would sugest is the Zeiss Conquest, best scope for the buck IMHO

Thanks guy's,I was under the impression that the one piece was better.( Maybe I just convinced myself of it.....LOL)What would you reccomend as far as brand goes being the strongest? As far as the optics goes I don't lay down when it comes to my glass,But I usually don't go crazy either .I probally will be doing some paper punching ( maybe up to 500 yds. or as far as I can shoot a decent group) with it as well as hunting with it some if it turns out to be as accurate as the rem mag..So I am wondering if the 12 x is enough .I have a 3.5 x 10 x 50 Leupold on my rem mag.And it leaves a little to be desired at 400 + the heavy duplex might have something to do with it...SWAMP

You may try a 4-16X but if you are going to be using it for hunting I would not go over 4X as my lower power range on a hunting rifle.
Beleive it or not I have just recently put Weaver quad lock rings on two of my rifles. They seem to be a very strong ring and look awesome to boot.

BB would definitely know better than I, but I think the one piece base may be stronger than a two piece. I use both and haven't really noticed any difference between them. For a hunting scope I would also go no larger than a 4x12. Shooting the STW I would most definitely want an adjustable objective. On my 257 R I have the Weaver 4x4 rings and they are rock solid. look good too.
