RE: Savage 99 question

ORIGINAL: brasskeeper

I have a model 1899 in 300 savage according to the serial # it was made sometime during 1922. These are fine rifles and If you see one don't pass it up. The 300 savage is close to the same power as the 308 winchester. The winchester has a slightly longer neck which allows it to hold more powder. I would say in a more modern action which could handle the pressure and a faster burning powder, you could hand load the 300 savage to do anything a 308 winchester can. But these are my opini:)ons.

brasskeeper, I believe the Pre-1955 Savage has a shorter action than the Post-1955 action.
They made it alittle longer when Winchester intoduced the .308 in 1955.
I agree with you, the .300 can be hanloaded to match the .308Win
