RE: bullet penetration

The problem with having a bullet deposit all of it's energy on impact and be designed not to pass through is that it has to be very fragile to do it. What if you hit the shoulder bone, the bullet will stop right there. In that case you will be left with an ugly flesh wound but intact vital organs. That's how game escape wounded. Go for controlled expansion so it can penetrate animals that don't give you a good broadside shot and still have enough energy to dig deep and destroy vital organs.

I can't remember a heart or lung shot deer goin' over 100 yards. I can scarcely imagine havin' to have a blood trail to track an animal that far.

Slamfire, I have had LUNG shot deer run 30-50yds till they drop, that's only 90&150ft.
Not HEART shot......Lung shot!

Deer are one thing but with most verything else I want through and through. I shot a small black bear last fall. Trail was skimpy because of the fat and hide. It took 2 hrs to find it. The bear went 200 yds tops. 200 yds in open country is nothing. Much easier to find. 200 yrds in a cedar swamp is hard going. I'll take complete penetration every time.
