RE: Outer's Foam Cleaner ???

BC I'll give you a good example of the effectiveness of these Foam Cleaners. I traded for a 6mm Reminton which is very accurate BTW. I shot it a few times and did the usual cleaning routine and put in Wipeout . I let it sit for an hour. The Patch came out Dark Blue. I then flushed the barrel out brushed it 10 times and ran patches thru until clean. I put in Wipeout again for 2 hours. The Patch still came out Dark Blue. I repeated the brushing procedure and then left Wipeout overnite. Next morning the patch came out Dark Blue. At this point I broke out the Foul Out III and hooked it up at 8am that morning. AT 11pm I had already cleaned the barrel twice with a brush because there was so much copper on the sacrificial rod. This barrel was fouled I mean fouled. I then ran JB paste thru it 10 times and put the gun up for the nite. The next day repeat of previous day and finally I got all the copper out after again brushing the bore after running the Foul Out. Lots of copper on the sacrificial rod as well mostly in the first half of it . Now running a cleaning rod down the barrel I can tell the barrel is much smoother . This changes my view of this product. I think maybe for lightly shot guns with custom barrels it will be ok but for the heavy stuff your going to have to use a more industrial stength cleaner. BTW with the fouled up barrel cloverleafs at 200 yards..it is one accurate SOB but cleaning it is a B. This one is getting torn down for a custom in the next week or so.

KROIL is
It is a oil that I think has been around awhile. Its supposed to not only clean, but penetrate and protect. I used it for getting out Moly before. Other than that, I don't use it anymore

I just wonder if the cheaper outers and others are good, better or worse than wipe out. Wipe out works great on some guns but seems to take foreever on others.

BC wipeout is the only foam I have used. According to Internet Hearsay it is the best of the foams. I could have used a case of Wipeout and it wouldn't have cleaned this gun and I am betting a case of CR-10 wouldn't have either for that matter

I don't know, thats some stong stuff. It ate up my rods.

So this is the beast your having worked on? Even though it clover shots?

Yes it has a sweet action better then any new Remington just cycle it and anyone can tell the distinct difference and that is why I am doing this. I plan on doing some serious WD hunting with it both in Bama,NC, Out West and Canada and a 6mm Rem is not enough gun in my opinion especially on very large deer and especially if a Cow Elk tag is in possession. I will probably hear from the 6mm lovers on that one but sorry I pay for the rifle and I shoot what I want and at this point in my life know what does and doesn't work. Anyways a 308 brings it to another level. I simply don't want to use mags for deer anymore. If you want I can send you the barrel:D couple of months with that and you'll not have to go to the gym.

If you have a copper problem in your barrel only a Foul out will remove it completely. CR10 may work but you'll probably die from ammonia poisoning doing it. You would have had to use a lot of it to have even dented this barrel that is all I can say.

RE: Outer's Foam Cleaner ???

I used the outers for the first time here recently on my M1A after putting about 80rds thru it. One 30min soaking with the foam DID remove all the copper. So I gave it another 30min soaking to make sure - no more copper, but still plenty of carbon fouling. Gave it another 30min soaking.............still lots of carbon fouling. I still ended up brushing & patching it quite abit with MPro7 to get all the powder/carbon fouling out.

So I'd say the Outers stills needs a little help with the powder fouling - but works great on copper. Next time I use it, I'm gonna brush and patch it a little with MPro7 first to break the fouling up and THEN use the Outers - maybe that will speed up the process.

You know, I find with some guns like yours Mark, that the carbon over time gets hard as a rock and actually hides the copper. Only way to remove all the way is with JB's. Might want to see if there is any copper until you can almost see bare metal.

That was just on a few screamer rifles.

You're right about that bigcountry...................... especially when shooting Mil-Surplus ammo like I was the other day. That Aussie ammo shoots real nice, but is DIRTY!!!!
I'm pretty anal about my gun cleaning, so I know I got it down to the metal. While cleaning the carbon, I test for copper every so many passes thru the bore to make sure I didn't uncover a Copper mine that had been previously buried.
Typically, I break out the J-Bs a couple times a year to make sure on all my firearms - or if things kind of suddenly change for no apparent cause.
