The ultimate .22 Rifle

What is the best .22 rifle....scope, stock, barrel and all.....for any distance, mainly around 40-100 yards.

Doesn't "ultimate" mean money is not an issue????

Today, if you want a 22 in the "ultimate" class, you better buy a Cooper!!! I believe if you know guns and what quality cost, you will find them a pretty good deal...

if ultimate means value for the money, versatility and shooting plesure it is very hard to beat the Ruger 10/22.

Anschutz is considered by many the Holy Grail of rimfire rifles, their rifles set the standards with others are judged. They are a bit more costly though, but you didnt mention the economics.

I sighted mine in a 85, don't get midrange misses too often, and its only 5" low at 100. :D

The best rifle for 22LR? Well, guess it depends on what you expect, and how much money you're willing to invest. And, for what purposes it will be used. As noted, the Kimber, Sako, etc. are excellent, but a little pricey IMO.

I've had real good luck with Ruger over the years, having had several different models
of the 10/22 semi-auto, and a couple bolt action models 77/22. Marlin is also good, and
far less costly, but I like the Rugers. Observed a fella using a little bolt action Savage
at the range one day, and it too was extremely accurate. I think he said he paid approx.
$95 for it - with 4x scope! He was shooting dime sized groups at 50yds. One of the added attractions for the Ruger 10/22 is all the accessories available for it. You can get
different barrels, stocks, triggers, etc. if you want to go that route.

I currently have a Ruger 10/22 with a Leupold 4x rimfire scope. It has the full/mannlicher style stock. Out to about 75yds., it'll do "minute of squirrel head", and for longer ranges I have no problem with body shots out to approx. 125yds. I use Federal Classic, 38gr. HVHP ammo.
I guess if I were going for the most accuracy I might try the Ruger 10/22 target model or the target model 77/22 bolt action. Then maybe mount a 2-7x or 3-9x scope.

I have a Ruger 77/22 target model in 22WMR with a Leupold 3-9x compact mounted, and this thing, with Rem. V-Max ammo, is amazingly accurate - "minute of squirrel's eye" out to about 75-80yds. If I had to have just one 22, then this 22mag. is it.:D
