good trade?
 

My western field 30.06 for a 44 Mag. Ruger carbine rifle. The 44 is my dads, and the 30.06 is way too big of a gun for me. Doesnt kick hard, but too long. THe 44 is short and accurate for a female with a stature like me. what do u think?

It would be a very good trade by all accounts and if the gun were built in the 60's or 70's an even better trade. Pull up its serial number on Rugers site www.ruger.com and you should be able to tell how old it is.

sounds like a very good trade to me! if you like it more than the 3006 then it was a good trade.;)

is it a good trade value wise? performance wise? its s emi-auto and the 30.06 was a bolt action. Honestly I handle the 44 mag a lot better and is more accurate with it. I think I could kill deer here in MO....

A ruger carbine in good condition will be worth more than most bolt guns in good condition with very few exceptions

i think it is a good idea if u aint looking for distance shot's i have a .44mag and it is good for dense cover with alot of power but if u hunt in open country i would go with the .3006 but other wise i would use the .44mag[:-]

i like the little ruger 44's, kinda like a deer killin 10/22, accurate and fun to shoot, too bad i sold the only one i ever owned [&o], btw i would keep the shots under 100 yds as others had mentioned

I think it depends on which Western Field 30-06 you have. If you've got one of the German-made Heym rifles in good condition, it might be worth a lot.

On the other hand, if you've got a run-of-the-mill Western Field (by Mossberg, etc.), I'd rather have the Ruger.

it was made in west-germany. how do you kknow if its a German-made Heym rifle

As metioned before I'm biased towards Ruger.Huh F4YG.LOL.You might be able to findout who made that Western Field by going to
http://www.e-gunparts.com/crossref.asp If the Ruger fits you I say go for it.As mentioned you can findout when the Ruger was made.Go to www.ruger-firearms.com click on firearms then product service.Have the model and S/N. It will tell you what year it was made according to the range of your S/N.

The little 44 carbines were nice guns.I might mention I read on
the rugerforum, Ruger will no longer work on these.They've been out of production for several years.
