What would you do if you owned it?
I recently aquired a Remington 700 ADL in 6mm Rem. I checked the serial number on it and it was built in 1966 which makes it a keeper in my mind. If they built the new ones like they built this one no one would buy any other rifle. I still shake my head when I take it to the range and shoot factory corelockts thru it just unbelievably accurate. Gun is not much to look at and the barrel has spots all over it where the bluing is gone, action basically is not tight in the stock either and it has the bolt that locks when safety is on. The guy that traded it to me told me he was going to build a custom off of it and that started the old gears a turning . I don't have any standard calibers in my possession except a 22 K Hornet everything else is a Mag. I would just love to rebarrel this thing to .308 or 7-08 and put it in a good fiberglass stock and use it for all my deer rifling. What do you think?

Keep the rifle in its current condition if it shoots as well as you say. A Remington 6 mm should be adequate to pronghorn antelope, whitetail deer, mule deer, and perhaps mountain sheep.

I just wish I were young enough to call a 1966 rifle and old gun.
I would leave it alone. the 6MM is a good rifle. I know its not much bigger (case wise) than the 243 but having had both I loved the 6mm and hated the 243.

I have a Rem 700 that was made in the early 70's not sure of the exact year, that is a far cry better made than the new 700's.
