how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
how far will a 30-30 go (yards), and a 44 Magnum Ruger Carbine (yards)
Im thinking there both 100 yard guns accurate. Thanks, Melissa |
RE: how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
If you (as I believe you are) are talking about effective range in the field, I would say 100-150 yards max with an open-sighted .30-30 (unless you have excellent open sights and are very proficient with them), and from 200-250 max with a scoped .30-30. From 200 out to 250, you'd better know your trajectories!
In the Ruger .44 Mag carbine, I say out to 125-150 yards, depending on sights and inherent accuracy of the gun and/or shooter, but you're better off sticking to 100 yards max to be on the safe side. Brian |

How about with a bushnell scope on a 44 mag. how far?

RE: how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
150 yards if you can hit the vitals every time.

RE: how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
A scoped 30-30 should be good to approx. 150yds. Some will say more, but energy and
trajectory fall off pretty quickly beyond 150yds. For the 44mag (scoped), I'd limit my shots on deer to 100yds. |
RE: how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
Sight in an iron sighted .30-30 for 150 yards, then it's only 5" low at 200. You won't need to worry about trajectory father away than that, cause you won't be able to see well enough to actually shoot. That ol' cartridge will kill an awful big animal out there, it uses bullets not energy to do the job. ;)

RE: how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
Slamfire, well said! I cannot believe that people think you cannot kill a deer at 200 yards with a .30-30! Just like those who say a 180-grain bullet out of a .30-06 at 200 yards is underpowered for elk, but the same bullet at 500 yards from their .300 RUM is "just the ticket."
I, for one, would not want to get hit with a 170-grain pill from a .30 WCF at 900 yards! Brian |
RE: how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
Both are short range weapons. I would limit both of these rounds to a max. of 150 yards. With the .30-30 having a slight edge over the .44 Mag. In regards to the .44 Mag. most bullet weights are well into the 200's grain wise with 200 being the lower. Their might be lighter bullets, but I haven't looked into it. With this in mind, the .44 Mag really starts to drop off the table out past 150 yards.
IMO both would be excellent choices for hunting deer inside of 150 yards. Mr. .45-70 |
RE: how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
i would say 200yds with a 30-30 if u know ur gun and have a good rest and the deer is calm. For the 44mag i wouldnt say shoot past 100 thats about ur max with it. it drops off alot past 100!

RE: how far...30-30, 44 Ruger Mag
Check the ballistic tables. The .30.30 & the .44mag are 100 yrd guns. Beyond that their effectiveness drastically drops. gg.
