You don't mention if you will be using factory fodder or handloading, but that's OK, because my answer is the same. Shoot Nosler Partitions and you will have no problems.

Now, I prefer Ballistic Tips for deer (165-grain weights in both my -06's), but a good ol' 165 or 180-grain Partition is good enough for deer, black bear, caribou or elk. The 180's especially for elk, but you may get better trajectories and accuracy from 165-grainers, so experiment.

Look....there are more components geared towards the -06 than almost anything. You have a myriad of products to choose from, including scads of factory loads and bullets. But if you want a bullet that is known for penetration, weight retention, accuracy AND expansion at just about any sane range, you cannot make a bad choice shooting a Partition.

I've been shooting a 30-06 with 165gr. Win. Fail Safe ammo for some time now and it works for me., My -06 loves them. The only thing i don't like about them is there price. It all depends on what your rifle likes.

Remington's Green Box 180 grain Corelokts. If your rifle likes 'em are just about the best performers you can get in a .30-06. If'n you want to pay more get the Corelokt Ultras.

i use winchester 180gr silvertips , and i hunt moose every year, they have never let me down, i have found that you dont have to waste money on the premium or ultra bullets, the regular ones will work just fine for you. i bought some remington 180 PSP core lokts to try at the range but havent had a chance to get out, but i think even if they work good i will still stick with the silvertips, like i said they seem to work great in my 30-06.

GW101

Personally, after many years of using 180 grainers, I've switched totally to 200 grainers in a .30 calibers. Mostly in the Sierras, but in the Nosler's or TBBC in the magnums (still use the 200gr Sierra's in the .300 WinMag, though).

The Sierras always shoot well for me, and they kill pretty darn good too. I also hunt elk the same time I hunt the deer.

Not much meat destruction and will shoot through most deer.
