Car hood elbow rest
 

I recently bought a M70 camo/stainless in 300 wsm with a 3x9 VXII in stainless to put some "bigger" meat in the freezer but have yet to take it to the range, buy a rest ect.

I can get 5 shot 2"groups (measured) at 100 yds (measured) shooting over the hood of my truck, which I figure is as good as or better than what I'll get hunting How many of you shoot like this? Would this satisfy you or should I buy a rest?

250 yard shots will hit a 8x11 peice of my wifes "nice" paper. I took the targets home to show her...good thing she hits like a girl.

I have a Uncle Bud's Bulls Bag, and it holds rifles rock solid. Good luck.

Don't shoot off the hood of your truck. Use the tailgate. I learned my lesson the hard way. Several years ago, I was sighting in a Remington 7400 Carbine shooting from the hood of the truck. It wasn't until I was done shooting that I discovered that the muzzle blasts had flecked the paint. Okay, you can stop laughing now;) Get yourself a rest and shoot from the tailgate.

yah a friend of mine had a muzzle break put on his 308 and laid a blanket over the hood of his truck and shot off the hood after he fineshed and pulled the blanket off the hood he seen all the dents from the blast of every shot. it was a very costly mistake but he learned from it;)

I work at a car dealership. A couple of years ago our owners dad was shooting at a deer off the hood of his pickup. Shot right though the hood and fender. They gave him the hood with antlers attached to it at the company christmas party! LMAO!

HAHA! Every time I get in my truck I see 2-3 indentations in the hood of my truck. Caused by my elbow the few times I forgot to pad it before I touched off my contender. You squeeze the trigger, the gun fires and your arm goes instantly numb. You call a good shot and will gladly make another as soon as you regain the use of your arm.

Then there was the time I shot a braked 14 incher off that hood....
OH Well, I had planned on getting a new paint job anyway.

One thing I might point out...the hood of your truck isn't really stable most of the time, I always feel like I'm slipping off unless I shoot straight across the hood....I told you that to tell you this...Back in high school, I had a small starburst crack in my ford's windshield from a rock thrown by a semi, about the size of a dime, right at the top of the windshield near the center....I fired my .30-06 straight across the hood to sight in my rifle, the windshield absolutely SHATTERED....

Since then, I set a rest on the edge of the bed and sit down in the bed on a pad to sight in if I don't have an appropriate rest, no more shooting off the hood!!!
