Not even a contest get the conquest.Better lenses and coatings make for a brighter scope.
I own Leupold scopes but my next QUALITY scope I buy will be a Zeiss...;)

I've got a VX-III in 4.5-14x40 and it is plenty bright. I had to give $500 for it. I like it a lot. The adjustments and the adjustment knobs are a +. It is extremely bright and has excellent eye relief. Its size is modest for its power. It is a great fit for my .25-06.

Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x50-------419.00 dollars

Burris Black Diamond 4-16x50----529.95 dollars

Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x50----------599.00 dollars

Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50---------589.00 dollars
Look at the Zeiss it is a super scope..not sure you wouldn't be better off with a 44mm though but that is your choice. Try the Opticzone or Eurooptics for pricing.

RE: Help me pick a scope.

a 50mm objective on a 1" tube is pointless. Either get a 30mm tube or look into 40-44mm on a 1" tube
Please educate me on how it is. I see people spead this myth around alot. I guess they heard it off the internet. I used to manage and still have an office by classical optics scientist for gov. work, and they helped educate me on the matter. I moved on to nonlinear fiber optic transmission instead of classically lense optics. Which is different mind you. Anything you can do to increase your surface area to let more light in helps. Don't matter if you got 10mm tube, the larger your objective the more tranmission you will have. Thats assuming the index of refraction is matched almost perfectly to the air and you lenses are shapped perfectly to route that light to the small internal lenses. Using a 50mm tube would be even better than a 30mm tube. After that you can't gain until you raise your objective.

Black Diamond ....these are equal or better than the leupold or conquest, cheaper and made in the USA. Conquest and leupold are made from parts all over the world. The Black Diamond is pushing Swarovski. good luck, Rick.
And worst customer service there is. I owned my last burris product.
