I have an Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight Deerslayer. Due to my own error I splintered the forend. I have acquired a new replacement and had some questions on installation.
First is it a job I can do myself? If it is not, approximately how much should a gunsmith charge to install it?

It's not a hard job. I replaced one way back. I bought one of the old style Barrel type forearms for mine. I don't remember how I did it but it wasn't a big job.I'm sure once you look at it you'll find it's nothing to changing it.Remove the barrel after checking to see that it's unloaded.I think I removed the trigger assembly so I could remove the action bar.There isn't that much to a Ithaca M-37.

Remove the barrel (screw the magazine cap IN rather than out), unscrew the magazine cap and remove from mag tube, unscrew the barrel support and remove from mag tube, and then unscrew the forearm retaining nut. Slide off the wood and reinstall in reverse.

Simple as that. Should take about 5 minutes total.

Bigbulls after reading your reply you refreshed my memory.I must have been thinking of a Rem 870 taking the action bars out.I do remember it wasn't much changing mine.That was a long time ago I did it.

Bigbulls, looks like it is going good so far. Is there a trick to getting the forearm retaining nut off?
