pawn shops?

I went to the pawn shop the other day just to see what they had in guns because that was what they specialized in. I asked if they carried any 7mm-08 guns and they said no but they can order them. They showed me a catalog of NEW guns. There was a 7mm-08 Savage gun brand new for $399. There were also remingtons and winchesters for a reasonable price. I was just so used to going to bass pro in springfield MO seeing good guns for $600 and up. Is there a catch at pawn shops? Why would they be that cheap or is bass pro over priced? Is it too good to be true? would they be defectice new guns? Just curious, has anyone had any experiences with pawn shop guns? A winchester at winchestergun.com have a 7mm-08 for almost $800. The pawn shop owner said that you are just paying for the name......

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Melissa

Sorry, the main brands I know are remington, win, ruger, and browning. Even the Remingtons were at a good price at the pawn shop. So Savage guns are pretty cheap? Are they good accurate guns though?

Thanks

Befoe you jump in and get one at a pawn shop checkout Walmart and these internet places to get an idea of the going price of guns. Keep in mind though if you get one through the internet you may be charged shipping and FFL charges.

Savage is a good rifle for the $$$. Very accurate too. I've not owned any Savage, but a good friend of mine is hooked on 'em because they make a lot of left handed models.
He's had nothing but good experiences in the last 30+ years of having various Savage
rifles.
As to the pawn shop, check with your local BBB office. If they're a problem there should
be some record of it. Here in my area there are several shops, including one pawn shop I know of, that will order a gun for you at cost +10%. As noted, you can also check approx. prices for new guns on several internet websites for gun auctions. Of course, if you purchase a gun via auction you have to have it shipped to your local FFL dealer. You will need to pay shipping (usually a modest/fixed figure), plus any transfer fee your local shop charges. Be sure to check first if your local dealer will handle these
transfers, and how much he charges.

You mentioned the pawn shop having a good price compared to bass pro shops....that's really not surprising. Bass pro shops are notorious for being really high priced. $390-400 is a typical price for the Savage rifles. The "problem" with Savage rifles is that they're not as highly refined as other higher priced rifles. They're not as pretty. However, they're usually just as accurate, or even MORE accurate than typical Rugers, Remingtons, Winchesters, Brownings, etc etc, and for about half the price.

Like my saying always goes......the pretty halter horses usualy cant run barrels, but my ugly mare can run them fast. It doest take a pretty horse to win.

I would also make sure that you were not looking at THEIR prices from distributors. Their is a big difference in what they pay the dist. and what a dealer charges you. Most dealers I know want to make 25-50 bucks for the paperwork of ordering a gun. Just something to look into.
