No. 7x57 ammo should be fairly easy to locate in any good gun shop. There just isn't a lot of variety in ammo for the 7mm Mauser. Federal, Remington, and Winchester all make a 140gr. load for it, and last I looked Federal still made a 175gr. loading. PMC also makes loads with both bullet weights.
If you can't find ammo locally, you can usually purchase via the Internet from several
suppliers, including one custom ammo mfg. I know of. Following are a couple of links:

No...easy to find...next to the 30'06, it's the most popular caliber in the world. I reload my own cause the manufactures have pussied this load cause of all the inferior?? South american etc etc antique military rifles around. I've got an older Steyr mod m and shoot the 140 gr bullets at 2920 fps.....great deer gun...no kickie...Regards, Rick.

The 7mm Mauser is really common. You'll find ammo basically anywhere, including walmart. I've used the old mauser for deer and hogs in the past, it does quite well.

48th has it right, although I'll not be quite as vulgar. Typical factory loads are kept at lower pressures than modern models are capable of in deference to the older mausers, I want to say Turkish 38's or 98's, but that doesn't seem right. At any rate, handloading can push the 7mm mauser a bit farther than factory loads, but you really won't be hurting to simply use factory loads anyway. It's a great round, it's killed a lot of game over it's lifetime.

I just received a 7x57 as a gift. Our local Wal-mart/K-mart does not carry 7mm Mauser ammo but all of the local shops have, at least, Remington Core-lokts. One shop carries 4-5 different brands. As others have said, its also all over the internet.

Cabelas sells some also. Hornady has some light mag loads that are great for deer hunting. I reload endless options with the 7mm.
