Savage guns

Does anyone own a Savage gun? I found a 7mm-08 Savagefor a good price, but Im not familiar with Savage. Are they good guns?

RE: Savage guns

IMO for the money they are hard to beat, Is it a new Savage or older model? The new accu-trigger is great in the new ones, I know you can find a better looking gun but for a good ol using gun they are a great value. And about every one I have saw will shoot with about anything out there.

My other Savage 110 in 7mm rem mag, shot a groundhog this past spring at 348 yards, it is unbelievable how accurate these guns are out of the box

I won a Savage Model 12FLVSS (synthetic stock, LH, Stainless flute heeavy barrel) in a .22-250. Its an icredibly accurate gun staright from the box. I can get a .8" @ 200yrds 5 shot group with ballistic silvertips. Mine has a Accutrigger which many have said to be one of the best triggers out there. Hope that helps.

IMO savages are by far the best gun for the money. They are not the highest quality gun, but they are very good for their price. They are incredibly accurate out of the box and the Accutrigger is amazing. I think they are very good guns.

After much reading and researching there's a 12FVSS on its' way to me now. Take a look at www.savageshooters.com for articles, etc and they also have forums.

I've owned and shot just about every domestic rifle, just bought my 1st Savage over the holidays. I love it. the Accutrigger makes the rifle. I used to be an avowed ruger fan, but with the Savage running 1/2 the price; No Contest.

Bought my first Savage rifle in December. I have not had the chance to really get some shooting time with the rifle but I have shot it a few times off my back deck. I could not resist to see how that accu-trigger felt. If the gun shoots as good as the trigger felt I will be completely satisfied.

i own a savage model 110L chambered in .270 it is a great gun. all savages are great guns. i like them over all the other gun makers out there. last summer, we were shooting 1/3 in. groups with it. when it was brand new, we shot 1/2in. groups at 100 yds

Don't think they are that great,I shot this lousy 5-shot group @100yds with one of their muzzleloaders.:D Not even going to talk about how well the 223 10 fp shoots @ 300 yds.

I bought my Savage, in 300 Win Mag, from a pawn shop in Englewood, CO for about $200. I was a little skeptical but it has amazed me how accurate it is at long distances. For me, at 200 yds it consistently creates groups of 2-3 in. The best measure is that it keeps my freezer full.

I do have a slight problem with the factory installed Simmons 3-9X40 scope. It seems to get knocked off target after I travel with it. It has me looking at putting on a scope that will cost more than the gun itself!

Keep this very basic principle in mind, average equipment in skilled hands will always beat great equipment in average hands.

I Have a Savage 110 .243 i bought at Wal mart. It was without accurtigger, so got the gun for under $200. It came with a simmons 3x9x40 scope. With my 100Gr Sierra SPBT reloads I HAve from day 1 shot 1/2 to 1/4 inch groups at 100 Yards. Truely a teriffic gun. Wouldnt trade it for the world. Stays within 1/2 groups even after 30 shots without running a bruch through it.

Id buy one in every calibur if i could. Thats how GOOD they truely are.

Savage makes very accurate rifles with great triggers (Accutrigger) out of the box. I feel that they offer tremendous value for hunters/shooters who are on or even off of a budget. Sadly, I only have 3 Savage rifles (223, 7-08, and 30-06) but do hope to add a fourth in 300 mag this summer.

Getting my first next week. Any company that has came as far as they have in a short time needs to be supported:D Not the prettiest things in the world but I havent seen one that wasnt a tack driver yet.

I have a savage in the same caliber. I personally think its a great gun. Reasonable price and very accurate and best of all the caliber is fantastic for deer hunting.

I own a Savage 210f, (bolt action, rifled 12ga shotgun). It shoots 1 in groups at 100yds with Remington core-lokt ultra's.
Now I'm taking it to the next step with a Savage 10ml w/accutriger. Normally these are great guns out of the box, however I couldn't resist going a bit further. I just order a new Henry Ball custom 10ml lmtd. Fortunately I order mine days before they stopped producing them, for the time being.
I'll let everyone know how it is when it arrives in about a month...

Looking real hard at one in 300 WSM based on all the good reports from everywhere.

How may that bought the package rifle would do it that way again?

harryinny 03-20-2005 11:55 AM

RE: Savage guns

Id buy the package gun again in a heartbeat. The scopes are as good as the $700 big budget scopes. Honestly are Ive even dropped my simons 3 feet from cleaning the gun, and its still dead on.
The 300 your looking at is awesome. I shot one lastweek a guy just bought. Same gun in the Kit. And it was NICE!!

WhiteTail,
That's BigCountry's Savage not Mossy33Oak's. He borrowed the targets from BC.

And why shouldn't that be? How many loads have you tried with it? 1.5" @ 100yds is acceptable for a hunting weight rifle in a hunting caliber. If you don't like those 1.5" groups, send the gun to me, I will glady take that.;)

Oh, and by the way, I have a 110 in .30-06. Shoots about 1.5" also, and I have been working with loads for it for some time, and somehow, it still manages to kill deer.:)

I just ordered a new Savage in 308 with the accutrigger on special and looking forward to getting it. This gun will be used for pushing bush so I’m not to concern on the looks of this gun. It should be nice and light only weighing 6.5 lb. and should do the job just fine ;)
