I'm looking to buy a new .243 for varmit and deer hunting. Which model is the best for the money. I've been told the Remington model 700 what do you guys think

It depends on fit & feel.
What fits you best ? what feels good to you ?
Everyone has a preference as to make and model and I'm sure you'll get alot of opinions here. Go to some shops and hold em. Figure out what you like. A good starting point for your more commor rifles would be the Rem 700, Win 70, Browning A-bolt. For me... I like my Rem 700 .243 topped w/ an Aetec 3.8-12X44. It's my Coyote/back up deer gun. It has given me flawless service.

every .243 i've owned (4) has been a decent shooter, the least i was impressed by was my blr in .243 alot of fun to shoot but the trigger was the pits and nobody wanted to work on it. the best was a rem model 700, but the only one i've still got is a nef single shot that i keep out of the safe for coyotes and such. just like jd mentioned get what feels best, because i've been able to get everyone of them i've owned to shoot good.

I have a friend that has a Browning BAR rife in .243. I didn't know an automatic could shoot so well. His will hold up to any bolt action gun. It is an awesome set up for coyotes. To add insult to injury, the thing shoots factory Remington 75 grain vmax or accutip bullets the best. Just another option to think about. I going to get my hands on one asap. Good luck.

I like the browning A bolts. im partial to the browning i love teh look and accuracy is great. the one my brother inlaw owns hasa matt barrel and i love that look. the browings do cost more so find what fits you better.

There is no best. Its a matter of opinion. Ask ten hunters and get 10 different answers. I like the Browning A Bolts and the Ruger M77. I have had very good luck with all the Remington rifles I have owned. If you get a Ruger you will most likely have to change the trigger or get it worked over. That goes for most guns though. The Remington has a good adjustable trigger.

I have a 1960's era Model 700 in 6mm Remington...none of my Sakos can /could touch it for accuracy no way no how. Barrel is showing exterior signs of wear and the stock doesn't look so hot but I have yet to see anything shoot this well.
