If you can use a straight power. Then either would be fine. I would stay away from the cheapes variable scopes but I have a Simmons Pro-Hunter 6X40 on my 30-06 and it held up well for years. The Banner and Troghy Bushnells have been very good to me. The troghy is a bit better scope for a little more money. The Simmons Aetec is the best of all but may be more than you want to spend at 130-160 dollars depending on where you find it.

I have a Simmons AETEC on my Omega and it is awesome. I think it is as clear and high quality as a Leupold. It is also very bright and has a wide FOV. It has a lifetime warranty too.

My vote goes to Simmons. The Aetec is an awsome scope for the price. If that's still too much try a pro hunter. I don't care much for Bushnell.

I have several Simmons and one Banner 4x12 that is probably 18yrs old and is so beaten up that it literally has pieces missing but still keeps 3/4" or less patterns @ 100yds. Not bad for a cheap scope.
