RE: remington 710
Just out of curiousity....What is the cost differential between the best price on a 710 and the best price on a 700? Cause from what I've read, you'd have to be really strapped for money to consider it. Also, from what I've read....why wouldn't a gun buyer consider a quality used gun before considering this new cheapo marginal weapon?

RE: remington 710
Again Joe, you're more than welcome- I'm happy to help out when I can.
8mm/06, the cost difference is only about $50. The 710 comes with a Bushnell Trophy scope (not a very good model) while the 700 ADL does not include a scope. It probably makes the net difference about $100 which is a small price to pay in this case. |
RE: remington 710
The last time I looked at my local Wally-World the M710 was running $325, the M700 ADL synthetic was $375. $50 well spent if you ask me. I picked up my ADL .243Win at Wally clearanced for $275 brand, and I've seen ADL's used for as low as $275 and even BDL's for $350 on occation. I can't see one good reason to rush out to buy a 710 when for the same amount or $25-50 more one can get a new or used M700.
Oh, and contrary to JOE-BEEF's fallacious and malicious opinion, I'm not exactly made of money. If I were "Mr. Money Bags" I'd have a safe full of Sako's and/or custom guns, not M700's. Since money doesn't grow on any tree I've ever owned, I find it important to spend what limited money I have on guns with both quality and value rather than wasting it on a sub-par rifle like the M710. I apologize if I touched a nerve, as my statement wasn't meant as a personal attack on you (Joe) like yours was toward me. Is it my fault that you made a poor choice when you bought your 710 and now regret it and feel bad when I call a proverbial spade a spade and give my opinion of the worth of the M710 (or lack thereof)? If you like your M710, then keep it and use it. As I also mentioned earlier, it is a functional utility rifle. As for me, it is my OPINION (I'm entitled to mine as much as you're entitled to yours) that the M710 is the biggest POS bolt rifle out there today and I wouldn't own one if one were offered to me for free. I would rather save a few months and buy an M700. If my M700 ever breaks or wears out it can be repaired or rebuilt. Ask your gunsmith if he'll rebarrel your 710 and see what he says. I'll bet he'll tell you to buy a new rifle. The fact of the matter is that the M710 is a disposable rifle that is OK until it wears out, but then it's worthless. My M700's will retain most of their value as long as I'm alive, and my kids will still be able to enjoy them after I'm gone (even if that is a couple shot out barrels down the road). Peace. Mike |

RE: remington 710
I'ts your attitude Mike But JOE, he does have a point. You could have done alot better for same money. So I would have to give drift some slack here. |

RE: remington 710
You can replace the 740 barrel. I have had mine for 20 years or more. Killed alot of deer. I even broke it out this year and killed cause it hadn't left my safe in 5 years.
Never had a issue. Found the reason POI was shifting too cause I changed the forarm. Dad gone it, your hurtin my feelings. :( |
RE: remington 710
I'm a 6'4" former Marine MP, if it really matters that much to you. I've been in enough fights, in and out of law enforcement, to know that I don't like to fight, but I will if I need to. I don't start stuff, and will avoid a fight if I can, with a few exceptions.
I'm actually a pretty nice guy if you bothered to get to know me. You've just read me wrong from a few posts from an online forum that you yourself has told others (including myself) to not take too seriously, thinking that just because I speak my mind I'm automatically an ass****. Of course, if frankly speaking ones mind and thinking one's always right makes one an ass****, then you (bigcountry) are as much of an ass**** as you think I am. You like to attack others when their opinion differs from your own, and then tell them to relax and not take things so seriously. Well, that door swings both ways. I'm not innocent of saying things to people that are meant to rile them up, but I think that you ought to pull the proverbial plank out of your eye before you worry about the splinter in mine. However, I'd bet that if we met each other without being aware of our online identities, we'd probably get along ok. Maybe not fast friends, but at least pleasant and civil. RE: remington 710
then you (bigcountry) are as much of an ass**** as you think I am I think I add a tint of comedy to matters. Which some would say a smartass. Difference between you and I, I believe is I get a laugh out of these things. We are pretty well the same size. So I understand where you are coming from. Well at least we have fun on here. And unlike the old days, I don't come home bleeding from speaking my mind. |
RE: remington 710
It's better to be a smartass than a dumbass, don't you think? ;)
Yea, well, you know what they say. It takes one to know one. Mike |
